"When I’m not playing rugby, most of my time goes to my nursing classes. The program is challenging, but I’m learning a lot."
I’ve always played sports. I wrestled for 10 years, played football for 4. I guess you could say I’ve got an inner warrior. So, when I came to Franciscan, I thought I’d try out for rugby. It’s been awesome. It proved to me that you can be tough and faithful. The secular world thinks it’s one or the other. Here, though, we know we can live the faith on the field as much as we can off the field. And because our team gets so much respect on the national level, it’s a great form of evangelization.
When I’m not playing rugby, most of my time goes to my nursing classes. The program is challenging, but I’m learning a lot. They don’t pull any punches in the program, so you have to know your stuff. The classes are small, however, and the personal interaction with the teachers helps. They also do a great job integrating the faith into the classroom. I’ve come to see nursing as a hands-on ministry. You get to be the hands and feet of God, living out your mission as a Christian as you care for others.
