    Choosing a college is a significant life decision and cost plays an important role. Here at Franciscan University, we understand that a college education involves a financial commitment, so we strive to create a financial aid package that will best suit your situation. Over 80% of Franciscan University students receive financial aid, which totals more than $11 million every year.

    Academic Scholarships

    We offer a variety of merit-based academic scholarships for excellent students. There is no application required, and scholarships are granted to students upon their acceptance. All academic scholarships are renewable. You may contact your admissions counselor for more information.

    FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

    Incoming high school seniors may qualify for one of the scholarships below.


    Father Michael Scanlan Scholarship Competition (FMSSC)
    Full-tuition Scholarship
    Students compete for two full-tuition scholarships, equivalent to $21,740/year for each winner. This invitation-only competition is open to all Presidential and Chancellor Scholarship recipients.
    Presidential Scholarship 
    $10,000-$12,000
    Requires a minimum 1540 SAT or a 35 ACT,* as well as a certain GPA.**
    Chancellor Scholarship 
    $8,000 for those entering in Spring 2014.
    $9,000 for anyone entering in Fall 2014 or later.
    Requires a minimum 1360 SAT or a 31 ACT,* as well as a certain GPA.**
     
    Dean's Scholarship 
    $5,000 - $6,000 for those entering in Spring 2014.
    $7,000 for anyone entering in Fall 2014 or later.
    Requires a minimum 1210 SAT or a 27 ACT,* as well as a certain GPA.**
    Provost Scholarship 
    $4,000
    Requires a minimum 1050 SAT or a 23 ACT,* and a 3.0 high school GPA.**
    * SAT requirements include only Critical Reading and Math sections; ACT requirements are Composite.
    ** Scholarships also depend on your high school GPA. Contact your admissions counselor for more information.

    NOTE: Updated transcripts and test scores may be submitted through the end of February. Scores from different test dates will not be combined.

    FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS

    Transfer students may qualify for different levels of the Saint Clare Scholarship. You must have completed at least 24 college credits. (If you have not completed 24 college credits, your scholarship could depend on your high school information and test scores.)

    Saint Claire Scholarships:

    • $4,000 - Requires a minimum 3.7 college GPA.
    • $2,000 - Requires a minimum 3.4 college GPA.
    • $1,000 - Requires a minimum 3.0 college GPA.

     

    Institutional Grants

    Our need-based institutional grants are offered each year based on several factors including financial need, academic standing and test scores upon entering FUS, housing status, and course load. The amount you receive is determined as part of your financial aid award package after we receive your FAFSA. These grants do not need to be repaid.

     

    Other New Student Scholarships

    We also offer additional scholarship opportunities for students who qualify. Please contact your admissions counselor if you have any questions.

    Proud2BCatholic Essay Competition – Open to all incoming freshmen and transfer students for the fall semester. We award numerous one-time $1,000 scholarships to the winners of a short essay competition. The essay prompt is posted in December, and the deadline is February 15 of the following year.     Steubenville Youth Conference Scholarship – Open to all incoming freshmen and transfer students for the fall semester who have attended at least one Franciscan University Youth Conference. We award numerous one-time $1,000 scholarships to the winners. The application is available to fill out here, and the deadline is February 15, 2015.

    TOR Parish/School – Students who belong to select parishes and high schools staffed by the Third Order Regular Friars of the Most Sacred Heart Province may qualify for this scholarship. Contact your admissions counselor if you think you may qualify.

    Phi Theta Kappa – Transfer students that are members of PTK are encouraged to apply on our website.

     

     

    Student Worker Opportunity Program (SWOP)

    Our Student Worker Opportunity Program consists of over 350 positions on campus and employs over 800 students. The SWOP Office does not limit the number of positions you hold as long as your work does not exceed 20 hours total each week. All students have an equal opportunity to apply for SWOP jobs on campus.

    U.S. Military Programs


    Opportunities for veterans as well as Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)

    100% Post 9/11 GI Bill + Yellow Ribbon Program = 100% OF TUITION AND FEES COVERED

    Students receiving 100% Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits are automatically enrolled in the Yellow Ribbon Program at Franciscan. This means that 100% of your tuition and fees will be covered by this amazing benefit. You’ve earned it!

    Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)

    Franciscan University collaborates with other area schools to offer Reserve Officer Training Program opportunities in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. Both programs offer scholarships to help pay for college expenses in exchange for a commitment to service upon graduation. Find out more.
