Admission Requirements

You should submit the following materials to the Admissions Office before February 1 to meet our priority deadline for admission in the fall semester.

  1. Graduate Admission Application
  2. All college transcripts
  3. Two reference letters
  4. A philosophical writing sample

Program Requirements

For your MA in philosophy you will need to complete 30 hours of graduate level course work and a six-credit-hour thesis. Before graduating, you will need to defend your thesis, as well as pass a language exam.

Required classes are: four 800-level courses and two 700-level courses. You must also choose four electives. You can choose these from classes such as The Philosophy of Science, The Philosophy of God, The Philosophy of Law, or Aesthetics.

If you do not have an undergraduate degree in philosophy, you may be required to take a limited amount of undergraduate philosophy coursework, as determined by the program director.
