    Biography

      Jonathan Sanford graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in classical languages and philosophy from Xavier University where he received The Martin G. Dumler Philosophy Award. He received his Ph.D. from the State University of New York, Buffalo followed by a post-doctoral teaching fellowship at Fordham University. He received his present appointment at Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2002. He is currently chairman of the philosophy department. He is a member of the American Catholic Philosophical Association; American Maritain Association; American Philosophical Association; Metaphysical Society of America; Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy; Society for Medieval and Renaissance Philosophy; Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy, and University Faculty for Life. He has received a number of grants for his research including an NEH Summer Institute grant to work on Latin American Philosophy.

      Professor Sanford works in the areas of ancient and medieval philosophy, particularly Aristotle, Anselm, and Aquinas. His research areas also include metaphysics, ethics, social and political philosophy, and the philosophy of Max Scheler.
