STEUBENVILLE, OH—On the eve of the thirty-fifth anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion, a pro-life prayer vigil will be held at Franciscan University of Steubenville. The vigil will take place in Christ the King Chapel at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21.
Participants will remember and mourn the more than 45 million infants aborted since 1973 at a service including prayer, Scripture readings, hymns, and a talk by Father Jonathan St. Andre, TOR, Director of Evangelization at Franciscan University. The vigil will conclude with a procession to the nearby Tomb of the Unborn Child where 35 red roses, representing each year since the Roe v. Wade decision, will be placed at the site where seven aborted babies are buried. The public is invited to attend the one- hour vigil.
Later that evening, seven busloads of Franciscan University students will travel to Washington, D.C. for the annual March for Life. The 400 students will be joined at the March by an estimated 400 additional students, alumni, and friends of Franciscan University, forming one of the largest groups of participants.
