STEUBENVILLE, OH—The Franciscan Women’s Scholarship Guild will celebrate their fiftieth anniversary with their annual fundraiser, “Spring Into Spring,” on Tuesday, May 13, at Franciscan University. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with hors d’ oeuvres in the Gentile Gallery of the J. C. Williams Center.

Events planned for the evening include a raffle with a number of prizes and a Chinese Auction, led by auctioneer Dale Featheringham. The featured auction item is a limited edition lithograph print of “My Hometown” by the well-known artist David Barnhouse. The picture shows the bustling Market Street in downtown Steubenville in the late ‘50s. The collector’s item showcases both the talent of a local artist and captures a peak period of time in the history of Steubenville. Barnhouse, who lives in Richmond, will be a guest at the fundraiser.

The Edison High School Chamber Ensemble, led by Dani Carroll, will provide the entertainment for the evening.

Since it began in 1957 as a card party affair, the Women’s Scholarship Guild has generated over $400,000 for Franciscan University. Currently, the club sponsors five scholarships, which are awarded each year to women in the tri-state area who wish to complete their educations and enter or return to the workforce.

“I am deeply grateful for the dedication and commitment of the women who have been a part of the women’s club for years,” says Franciscan University president, Father Terence Henry, TOR. “Franciscan University has benefited tremendously from their unselfish sacrifice and generosity.”

The evening costs $5 dollars to attend. Reservations are preferred but not required. To RSVP, call Judy Smith at 740-283-6406.
