STEUBENVILLE, OH— The Franciscan University Chamber Orchestra will present its spring concert on Saturday, April 26, at 8:00 p.m., in Christ the King Chapel.
The 20 players in the orchestra come from a variety of majors, including nursing, education, math, theology, and the new sacred music degree.
Under the direction of Dr. Paul M. Weber, assistant music professor at Franciscan University of Steubenville, the orchestra will perform a varied program. It will begin with Solemn Melody by Sir Walford Davies, which has been transcribed for the Chamber Orchestra by Weber.
Following this work will be the Symphony in G Major by G. B. Sammartini and Mass for Four Voices, op. 4, C., by Saint-Saens. The Mass by Saint-Saens will “utilize the full musical resources of the University,” says Weber, since it requires not only the chamber orchestra, but also the Franciscan University Chorale and the Schola Cantorum Franciscana. A guest organist from Duquesne University will also join the Chamber Orchestra for the piece.
“The power of all these musicians come together as they blast out the ‘amen’ at the end of the Gloria,” says Weber.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, e- mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
