  • The Franciscan Difference

When God created you, he made you like no other person. You are unique, singular, unrepeatable in all creation.

Similarly, Franciscan University is like no other graduate school. Here, you’ll find faith and reason, wisdom and grace, mercy and truth, action and contemplation—all working together to create an graduate educational experience that is as singular as you are.

    Academics:

With seven advanced degree programs, including the largest theology graduate program in the country, Franciscan University offers you the opportunity to advance your career, expand your intellectual horizons, and grow in faith. Here, you’ll study under world-class scholars and seasoned practitioners who are as committed to Christ and his Church as they are to the advancement of knowledge and professional excellence. They’ll help you understand how to integrate your Catholic faith into your professional life and equip you for success in whatever field God is calling you to.

    Community:

On Franciscan’s campus, you’ll discover lifelong friends, mentors, and spiritual fathers who will welcome you, challenge you, and encourage you as you strive to grow in wisdom and faith. In the classroom, your professors will know you by name, and outside the classroom, through a wide variety of intellectual and co-curricular opportunities—from discussion groups to faith households and intramural sports—you’ll become part of a community that will walk with you as become the gift God made you to be.

    Fidelity:

At Franciscan, you’ll be part of a family of believers who love Christ and his Church with an authentic passion. You’ll study under theology professors who teach the Faith in all its fullness. You’ll receive the sacraments from priests who proclaim the Gospel without compromise. And you’ll grow in friendship with students striving to live their faith in everyday life. Franciscan University was the first Catholic college in the country to require that all faculty and staff responsible for faith formation on campus swear an Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Magisterium, and that tradition continues to this day.

    Tradition:

As a student at Franciscan, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in two thousand years of Catholic traditions. Perpetual Adoration, the Rosary, Morning and Evening Prayer, Festivals of Praise, Benediction, weekly praise and worship, the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite Liturgy, and the Byzantine Liturgy all have a place in the life of Franciscan University. So too does the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, offered three times daily in our chapel, and Confession, which is heard Monday through Thursday on campus. At Franciscan, if it’s part of the Church’s tradition, it’s part of our life as well.

    Service:

Mission trips to third-world countries, mornings spent praying outside abortion clinics, nights spent feeding the homeless, and countless other service opportunities await you at Franciscan University. Here, we believe that, as Catholics, we’re not called to hide from the culture; we’re called to engage it and transform it. Works of mercy, evangelization, chapel ministry, and social media outreach give you the chance to do that now, as a student, and prepare you to continue serving God and others in the years ahead.
