Dr. Carolyn Miller
Professor of Nursing
Dr. Carolyn Miller says she knows Franciscan’s nursing students “better than they want” her to.
“I stand by the patients’ beds with them, teach them in the classroom, and see them here on campus almost all hours of the day. By the time they’re seniors, I know how they think.”
Miller, who came to Franciscan in 1981, believes her close and constant interaction with the students helps prepare them for the challenges of the healthcare profession.
“They need to know they can make a difference,” she says. “And they need to be prepared for the ethical dilemmas and challenges they’ll face.”
With years of experience working in schools, hospitals, and home-health care, and also having spent countless hours developing healthcare facilities for the underprivileged in the Ohio Valley, Miller knows those dilemmas intimately. But because of both the academic and spiritual dimensions of their education, Franciscan students, she says, “leave here more than prepared to handle those challenges.”
