Father Dave Pivonka, TOR '89, Named President

Standing before 1,600 current students, alumni, faculty, staff, religious, and guests on October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Franciscan University of Steubenville’s first alumnus president said he did not come to start over, but to continue the good work of Franciscan University.

“I believe that God is laying a foundation for revival in our Church,” Father Dave Pivonka, TOR, ’89 said moments after being inaugurated as the University’s seventh president, “and I firmly believe that Franciscan University is being invited to be the center of that revival.”

Throughout his remarks, Father Pivonka said Franciscan University should look to Christ the Teacher.

As we sought God’s will for the University, the trustees experienced the Holy Spirit’s guidance, and we are grateful for your prayers for our discernment, for the new president, and for the mission of Franciscan University.

We also appreciate your engagement and insights as alumni, friends, parents, and benefactors. These played a significant role in the election and reflect the love each one of you has for the University and its mission.

The Board of Trustees is excited to work with Father Dave, and we encourage you to welcome him warmly and assist him with your ongoing ideas, feedback, and prayers.

We congratulate Father Dave on his election and thank him for accepting the role of president. We will lend our full support to him as he leads Franciscan University of Steubenville into a new season of hope and a grace-filled future.
