Schedule:  Full-time; Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Student Success Counselor creates a welcoming environment, helping students thrive at Franciscan by connecting students with needed services and resources. This position includes a particular emphasis on minority and first-generation students.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work with incoming and returning academically at-risk students to ensure and promote a successful semester outcome. Facilitate programming and academic counseling to minority and first-generation students.
  2. Collaborate with the Student Success team to respond to students’ self-identified academic, personal, social and spiritual needs, connecting them with appropriate on-campus resources as needed, and providing academic coaching to students who have been identified as at-risk by virtue of their academic history, test scores, high school GPA, or other key indicators.
  3. Foster university retention efforts in the enrollment process of returning students. Encourage students to pre-register in a timely manner, providing assistance and resolving barriers to enrollment.
  4. Advise students with academic deficiencies and those considering a partial or total withdrawal from the University. Connect students with necessary resources, and help all students navigate academic policies and enrollment options.
  5. Assist in coordinating peer tutoring services. Responsibilities include the recruitment, training, and evaluation of tutors; arranging individual and group tutoring placements; maintaining tutoring records; supervision of group tutoring labs and other learning services outside of the classroom.
  6. Facilitate academic workshops on subjects such as time management, test preparation, learning styles, and goal setting to further academic engagement and success amongst Franciscan students.
  7. Maintain and assess a communication plan for the Center for Success, including, but not limited to, email campaigns, on-campus promotional materials, social media campaigns, and individual student calling and text messaging.
