STEUBENVILLE, OHIO—Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Anathan Theatre will perform Beaumarchais’ The Barber of Seville as its mainstage student production November 7-16.

The original comedy behind Rossini’s famous opera tells the tale of Count Almaviva’s efforts to woo the lovely Rosine and to liberate her from her tyrannical guardian, Dr. Bartholo. Employing his wit and his access to the doctor’s house, the barber Figaro leads the charge against the greedy Bartholo.

Directed by Franciscan University professor and chair of the Fine Arts Department, Dr. Monica Anderson, the family friendly play will be performed in Anathan Theatre, Egan Hall, ground floor.

The play will be staged during two consecutive weekends: Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8, at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, November 9, at 2:00 p.m.; and Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15, at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, November 16, at 2:00 p.m.

Performances will be 90 minutes with no intermission. The public is welcome to attend.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Admission is free for clergy, religious, and children 12 and under.
