Through drama, tragedy, and a whole lot of comedy, Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Theatre Department will explore the evil power of greed versus the beauty of life and art in its spring mainstage production, The Madwoman of Chaillot.

Written by Jean Giraudoux, the play tells the story of a woman who brings together the outcasts of society to save beauty, happiness, and art by pulling down a greedy group of industrialists and businessmen.

Directed by Franciscan University theater professor John Walker, the play will leave the audience asking if the woman was right or wrong in how she pursued the rescue of beauty.

“It’s an uplifting story about the human condition,” Walker said. “It speaks to humans being artists and creators. We’re made in the image of God, the divine creator, so it’s no surprise we’re hardwired to create.”

Performances will be held April 1, 2, 8, and 9 at 7:00 p.m. and April 3 and 10 at 2:00 p.m. in Anathan Theatre on the ground level of Egan Hall.

Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for students and seniors. Admission is free for religious and children under 12. Tickets may be bought at the door or by calling 740-283-6245
