STEUBENVILLE, OH — Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Film Society will host screenings of two films directed by four-time Academy Award winning director John Ford.
The Quiet Man (1952), one of the biggest commercial successes of Ford’s career, will be shown on Friday, January 24, at 7:00 p.m. Starring John Wayne, Maureen O’Hara, and Barry Fitzgerald, the film tells the tale of an American escaping from his country and dark past to make a new home in his ancestral Ireland.
Young Mr. Lincoln (1939), a partly fictionalized biography about the early life of President Abraham Lincoln, will be shown on Friday, February 21, at 7:00 p.m. Starring Henry Fonda, the film follows the life of the American president as a young lawyer facing his greatest court case.
In a career that spanned more than 50 years, John Ford directed more than 140 films and is considered one of the most influential filmmakers of his generation. He is most well-known for his Western films, such as Stagecoach and The Searchers, and adaptations of 20th-century American novels, such as The Grapes of Wrath.
Both film screenings are free and open to the public and will take place in Anathan Theatre, located in the ground floor of Egan Hall. Panel discussions will follow the screenings.
