STEUBENVILLE, OH—For the second year in a row, Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Ultimate Frisbee men’s club team, “Franciscan Fatal,” will compete for a national title after sweeping both the Ohio Conference and Ohio Valley Regional tournaments. With an impressive 7-0 record this past weekend, Fatal gained the region’s sole spot to compete with the top 16 DIII teams in the nation in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on May 21-22.

Outscoring opponents 97-47, Fatal proved to be the dominant force in the Ohio Valley region, defeating schools such as Xavier University and Messiah College. After last year’s undefeated season, the team looks to defend their title and bring home another championship.

Before traveling to nationals, Fatal will hold its first-ever home game in memory of their namesake, Franciscan University student Neal Rylatt. Neal was an avid Ultimate Frisbee player before he passed away due to Leukemia in 2012. His nickname was “Fat Al” which was translated to Fatal. The team also honors his memory by having his initials and number (NAR 16) on their jerseys.

The friendly home exhibition will be against Kenyon College on May 7, at Noon, on Franciscan’s rugby pitch, Memorial Field.

First-year coach Alex Renn said, “Playing the school’s first home game this weekend is how we thought best to honor Neal and his family before we head off to nationals.”

Neal’s father and sister will be in attendance and will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. Fatal will also honor its 13 graduating seniors.
