Franciscan University Offers New Fall Lineup of Continuing Legal Education Courses

STEUBENVILLE, OHIO—The Center for Criminal Justice, Law, and Ethics at Franciscan University of Steubenville will hold continuing legal education courses for law professionals on C.S.I, cybersecurity, happiness and the legal profession, and the legal and ethical aspects of the health care profession.

In the half-day seminar, “The Truth about C.S.I.,” Brian Kohlhepp, a professional in the criminal justice field and active practitioner in police leadership, will focus on crime scene, fingerprints, DNA, physical evidence, forensic photography, legal issues, case studies, and forensics in the courtroom. The course will be held Wednesday, September 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Registration is $129.

In “Cybersecurity, Cybercrime, Privacy, and the Law: Protect Yourself, Your Family, Your Firm, and Clients,” John Bandler will discuss applicable laws and professional responsibilities for cybercrime and cybersecurity, priority cybercrime threats, and how to build a personal and organization cybersecurity program. Bandler is an expert in cybersecurity, cybercrime, investigations, data privacy, anti-money laundering, compliance, and governance. He is a prolific speaker, writer, and author of Cybersecurity for the Home and Office and Cybercrime Investigations. The course will be held Friday, October 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration is $159.

In “Happiness and the Legal Profession,” Dr. Charles Nemeth, director of Franciscan University’s Criminal Justice Program, will review and analyze the current mental health of the legal profession and the practices that cause distress and unhappiness. The course is based on his popular book, Finding Happiness in a Complex World: Rules From Aristotle and Aquinas (a copy of the book is included). The course will be held on Friday, November 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration is $179.

In “Legal and Ethical Aspects of Health Care Administration,” Kevin Govern will offer a comprehensive review of the legal and ethical issues facing health care providers today to lawyers, medical administrators, and practicing health care professionals. Govern has taught at Franciscan University, the United States Military Academy, California University of Pennsylvania, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is a well-known expert in the area of law, security, cyber security, military operations, law and religion, and professional ethics. The course will be held on Friday, December 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Registration is $159.
