STEUBENVILLE, OHIO—CRC Press published the third edition of Law and Evidence: A Primer for Criminal Justice, Criminology, and Legal Studies by Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Dr. Charles P. Nemeth, professor of criminal justice and director of the Center for Criminal Justice, Law, and Ethics.
In Law and Evidence: A Primer for Criminal Justice, Criminology, and Legal Studies, 3rd edition, Nemeth introduces the complex topic of evidence law in a straightforward and accessible manner. He examines the use and function of evidence in both criminal and civil cases to offer a complete understanding of how evidence principles play out in the real world of litigation and advocacy. In this revised 3rd edition, he includes new discussions of rules and case law analysis, forensic cases, and evidentiary software programs.
“This third edition of Law and Evidence continues its mission to make evidence law and its many applications accessible and understandable for undergraduate majors in criminal justice, legal studies, law and public policy, and criminology,” said Nemeth. “The use and function of evidence, its types and categories, and the rules and case law that guide evidentiary analysis in both criminal and civil cases, are fully and realistically examined. In addition, the application of evidence principles not only touches police and law enforcement but also lawyers, judges, and investigative and regulatory occupations that need to be attentive to evidence principles.”
Nemeth is a well-known expert on professional ethics and the justice system, private-sector justice, and private security systems. Before assuming his current role at Franciscan University, he was chair and professor of Security, Fire, and Emergency Management and director of the Center of Private Security and Safety at John Jay College in New York City. He has published numerous other books and articles on law, justice, and philosophy including, Criminal Law: Historical, Ethical, and Moral Foundations, 3rd edition (Taylor Francis, 2023); Private Security: An Introduction to Principles and Practice, 2nd edition (Taylor Francis, 2023); Finding Happiness in a Complex World: Rules From Aristotle and Aquinas (Sophia Institute Press, 2022); Homeland Security: An Introduction to Practices and Principles, 4th edition (CRC Press, 2022); Private Security and the Investigative Process, 4th edition (CRC Press, 2019); and Private Security and the Law, 5th edition (CRC Press/Taylor Routledge, 2018).
