STEUBENVILLE, OHIO—Outdoor ice skating comes to Steubenville with the opening of The Rink at Franciscan Square.
Located on the Green directly in front of the Best Western Plus Franciscan Square Inn and Suites on University Boulevard, the skating rink will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, November 24, at 3:00 p.m., followed by public skating from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
“We’re excited to provide this new outdoor activity just in time for the holiday season,” said Vince Oliver, project coordinator in Physical Plant Services at Franciscan University of Steubenville. “Along with the Nutcracker Village and holiday events in other nearby communities, people in the Ohio Valley can now skate at The Rink at Franciscan Square without having to travel far.”
The venue will be dressed up for the holidays with a large Christmas tree, ornamental lights, and other seasonal décor.
Two hundred pairs of skates will be available in all sizes. The cost is $10.00 per person, or $6.00 if you bring your own skates.
Here is the regular schedule for The Rink at Franciscan Square.

Masks are required. The ice rink will follow all Ohio Department of Health guidelines for outdoor public gatherings and will initially operate at 50 percent capacity.
Franciscan Square eateries—Brooklyn Bagel, Rubi’s Pizza and Grill, and Bennigan’s Restaurant and Tavern—will be open for business during their normal hours of operation.
“We are deeply indebted to our major sponsor, Trinity Health System, and other local businesses and community organizations,” said Oliver. “Without their help, this new form of winter recreation in our community would not be possible.”
