STEUBENVILLE, OH—Franciscan University of Steubenville and the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology will host a two-day retreat for Catholic priests focusing on “The Joy of the Gospel” on November 7-8, 2014.
The retreat will begin with Evening Prayer on Friday, November 7, and end on Saturday, November 8. Dr. John Bergsma, associate professor of theology, and Dr. Scott Hahn, president of the St. Paul Center and the Father Michael Scanlan, TOR, Professor of Biblical Theology and the New Evangelization, will give four talks on the riches in the Gospel of John: “The Hour Is Coming,” “The Priest as Bridegroom of Joy,” “Priesthood and the Cross,” and “Greater Works Than These?”
Father Nathan Malavolti, TOR, vice president of Pastoral Care and Evangelization at Franciscan University, said the mini-retreat is designed to help priests grow in their knowledge and love of the word of God.
“As priests, we must always seek to increase our love and understanding of Scripture, and this event will help us do just that,” said Father Malavolti. “Franciscan University is blessed to have many excellent faculty in our Theology Department, and we know the insights and inspiration shared by Dr. Hahn and Dr. Bergsma will be invaluable to the priests who attend.”
In addition to the four talks, retreat participants will also pray the Divine Office, celebrate Mass, share meals, and take time for conversation and prayer.
