STEUBENVILLE, OH—Franciscan University of Steubenville will celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death with a rousing performance of the Bard’s comedy, Much Ado About Nothing.
Much Ado About Nothing is the tale of a loving young couple, Hero and Claudio, whose plans for marriage are foiled by the schemes of the prince’s jealous brother. The performance will be set in the present in a port town in Sicily, Italy, called Messina. The play is contemporary as it speaks to the concerns and experiences of the audience, especially the college student. Much Ado About Nothing is often called Shakespeare’s “most realistic comedy” and features delightful wit, romance, intrigue, song, and dance.
The play is directed by Dr. Monica Anderson, Franciscan University drama professor and chair of the Fine Arts Department.
Performances of Much Ado About Nothing will be held on November 4, 5, 11, and 12, at 7:00 p.m., and November 6 and 13, at 2:00 p.m. in Anathan Theatre, Ground Floor, Egan Hall.
Tickets cost $4 for adults and $2 for students and seniors. Admission is free for clergy and religious, and children ages 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the door or reserved by calling 740-283-6245.
