The Department of Nursing

The Department of Nursing at Franciscan University of Steubenville (FUS) invites applications for a semester visiting appointment in the graduate and undergraduate nursing program at a rank commensurate with degree and experience. The preferred candidate has extensive professional experience that can be applied in the academic environment and a commitment to the responsibilities involved with a full-time faculty role. The position begins January 2025.

Franciscan University, founded in 1946 by friars of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Province of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis of Penance, integrates excellent academic programs with a dynamic faith environment to serve 2,500 students from all 50 states and 17 countries on campus and an additional 1,000 students online. The Department of Nursing at Franciscan University of Steubenville facilitates the educational preparation of women and men as generalists on the undergraduate level and advance practice nurses on the graduate level in the professional practice of nursing. To this end, the program is built on Catholic, Christian beliefs and values and emphasizes the dignity of the human person from conception until natural death. In advancing this mission, the Department of Nursing is centered on nursing as a healing ministry, which is focused on the health of the person in their environment. Faculty at Franciscan University have the unique opportunity to promote learning in a Catholic, Christian setting where faith, morals, professional standards, and evidence-based practice are integrated to support the development of professional, ethical nursing practice in an increasingly complex healthcare setting.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Minimal master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program; Doctoral degree preferred (e.g., Ph.D., DNP).
  2. Unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license; Additional advanced practice nursing (APRN) preferred.
  3. Evidence of an OH RN license before the first day of employment and ability to obtain PA and WV RN licensure once Compact licensure is acceptable for OH and WV.
  4. At least 2 years of clinical practice in an area of clinical nursing (experience across the lifespan accepted) that includes performance of basic nursing
  5. Experience teaching at the collegiate level
  6. Commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and
  7. Supports the mission of the University

 

Additional Qualifications Preferred:

  1. Hold a national certification as a family nurse practitioner (FNP).
  2. Evidence of FNP licensure in
  3. One year of FNP
  4. Experience in research and implementing evidence-based practice into nursing

 

Responsibilities

  1. Develop, implement, and revise assigned nursing courses to reflect current best practices that are in alignment with the University’s mission.
  2. Teach and evaluate students in class, clinical and
  3. Actively participate in the Department of Nursing and University
  4. Serve as academic advisor for assigned
  5. Adhere to faculty responsibilities as outlined in University Faculty
  6. Contribute to ongoing program assessment and
  7. Perform other duties assigned by Department
  8. Maintain licensures required for
  9. Enhance clinical expertise when time
