The Office for Personal Vocation

Discover the Life God Is Calling You To

Your vocation is more than your major, your career or your future state of life. At Franciscan, we help you realize and live your personal vocation—God's call to you by name. This includes discernment of major life choices but always a daily rhythm of seeking holiness and responding to God’s voice.

Through our Office of Personal Vocation, students receive one-on-one mentorship, practical experience, and intentional formation that integrates faith, work, and discernment. Whether through our household for those discerning priesthood or religious life, hands-on experience in the Student Employment, service opportunities with Missionary Outreach, or support from Career Services, you’ll have concrete ways to live out your personal vocation with clarity and confidence.

The goal isn't simply to graduate with a degree, but to leave with the formation, experience and direction to hear and respond to God’s personal call after you graduate, and throughout the rest of your life.

How Our Office Helps You Live Your Vocation

State of Life Discernment

Your personal vocation also includes commitment to a basic state of life—marriage, priesthood, religious life, or dedicated service as a single person. Our office offers specific opportunities to help you prayerfully discern this important part of your calling.

We offer programs devoted to women considering religious life, coaching for engaged couples and various events for fostering healthy prayer and basic discernment. We provide opportunities throughout the year for students to encounter representatives from dozens of religious communities and dioceses.

We also have a dedicated program for men discerning priesthood or religious life: Koinonia. This longstanding Franciscan program offers structured formation, community living, spiritual direction and mentorship with a Franciscan TOR priest advisor.

Personal Vocation Coaching

Beyond programs and experiences, personal vocation coaching is tailored to your individual journey.

Through free personal vocation coaching, students receive one-on-one guidance to understand their gifts, make decisions, and respond to what God is asking of them right now. Coaching gives you the tools and support to take your next step with clarity and confidence.

Franciscan Quest

Franciscan Quest is a three-credit first-year course that helps students explore identity, vocation, and purpose through the Catholic intellectual tradition.

An innovative three-credit course designed to help students gain deep self-knowledge, navigate well the challenge and opportunity of our technological age, and embrace the liberal arts training needed to discern and fully live their personal vocations.

The course also includes upperclassmen peer mentors who help freshman students connect to the Franciscan University and get the support they need to launch well in college

Living Your Personal Vocation Seminar

The Living Your Personal Vocation Seminar is a free, 14-week experience designed to help our online-only students better understand how God is calling them to live and serve.

Through weekly Zoom sessions, one-on-one coaching, mentorship, and a supportive community, students gain practical tools for discernment and grow in confidence as they take the next step in their vocation.
