STEUBENVILLE, OHIO—Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Veritas Center for Ethics in Public Life recently appointed author and columnist Sohrab Ahmari as a visiting fellow.
Ahmari recently left News Corp. after a decade of work, most recently as op-ed editor of the New York Post, to launch a new media company. He is also a contributing editor of The American Conservative and author of several books, including From Fire, by Water: My Journey to the Catholic Faith (Ignatius, 2019) and The Unbroken Thread: Discovering the Wisdom of Tradition in an Age of Chaos (Convergent/Random House, 2021).
“We are delighted to welcome Sohrab Ahmari to the Veritas Center,” said Dr. Anne Hendershott, a sociology professor at Franciscan University and the Veritas Center’s director. “Sohrab’s publications and public lectures align perfectly with our center’s mission of bringing faithful Catholic scholarly reflection to bear on the most pressing ethical questions in contemporary culture.”
An Iranian-born immigrant, Sohrab Ahmari has emerged as one of America’s most prominent conservative Catholic commentators.
“Franciscan University of Steubenville is one of the nation’s solidly faithful Catholic higher-education institutions,” Ahmari said. “I’m absolutely thrilled to promote the work of its Veritas Center and to help bring to campus vital conversations at the intersection of faith, politics, and political economy.”
Ahmari recently spoke at Franciscan University about faith and freedom. As part of his fellowship, he will work online with Veritas Center undergraduate student fellows and help them engage in conversations on faith and morality in the political world.
“The student fellows and I consider Ahmari to be a pathfinder for truth amid cultural and moral illusion. We look forward to him leading us in a seminar in preparation for the upcoming Veritas Conference,” said Professor Concetta Pilsner, coordinator of the Veritas Undergraduate Student Fellowship.
Ahmari plans to hold a Veritas Center conference at Franciscan University October 7-8, 2022, titled, “Recovering the Common Good in the American Tradition.” The confirmed speakers to date include Patrick Deneen, Michael Lind, C.C. Pecknold, and R.R. Reno.
