How to Transfer to Franciscan

Step 1: Review Transfer Requirements

Transferring from another university can be daunting, but at Franciscan, we strive to make the application process and transition as streamlined as possible.

Overall Undergraduate Transfers

To transfer to Franciscan as an undergraduate student, you must meet these criteria:

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.2 on a 4.0 scale:
    • Applicants with a GPA below 2.2 may be considered for conditional admission.
  • 24 or more completed college credits:
    • SAT or ACT scores are not required.
  • Fewer than 24 completed college credits:
    • High school GPA and SAT/ACT scores or a written essay may be required.

Nursing Transfer Students

If you plan to transfer into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Franciscan, you must meet these requirements:

  • Complete the nursing admission form.
  • Earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5+.
  • Successfully complete required freshman sciences with a grade of C or above.
  • Successfully complete your freshman course requirements.

Please note: Nursing credits earned at other institutions are typically not transferable.

Contact the Franciscan University Office of Admissions or the Department of Nursing if you have questions.

Step 2: Submit Online Application

After confirming that you meet the transfer requirements, fill out the online application for Franciscan. While the application takes only about 15 minutes, you can start it now and come back to finish it any time.

Step 3: Send Transcripts

Along with completing your online application, you must request official transcripts from every college or university you’ve attended and send them to Franciscan via email or by mail:

Office of Admissions
Franciscan University of Steubenville
1235 University Boulevard
Steubenville, OH 43952

If you were homeschooled, then your homeschool transcripts must be signed by the primary educator and notarized.

Step 4: Understand How Your Credits Transfer

Once our Admissions Office receives your transcripts, we provide a transfer credit evaluation outlining how your credits apply toward your Franciscan degree.

  • Full credit is typically awarded for courses from regionally accredited institutions.
  • Courses must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or higher.
  • Courses with grades below a C are not automatically transferable.
  • Homeschool or correspondence coursework is not eligible for college credit.
  • Canadian students: Ontario Academic Credits (OAC) are not accepted.
  • Military credits are awarded as recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE). In general, only experience recommended by ACE for academic credit is considered for transfer. There is no maximum for the number of credits eligible for transfer, and “P” and “S” grades are accepted for these courses.

A final Advanced Standing Evaluation is completed after all official transcripts are received and is subject to approval by your academic advisor. If you register for courses without an Advanced Standing Evaluation, then you must assume total responsibility for any registration errors.

For questions about credit transfer, contact the Office of the Registrar at 740-283-6226 or [email protected] .
