STEUBENVILLE, OH—Accounting students from Franciscan University of Steubenville will offer free e-filing assistance to Ohio Valley residents through the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA).
Beginning February 12, students will be available six days a week near Center Court in the Fort Steuben Mall, across from the AT&T store.
Hours of operation are Monday and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Friday from 3:30 p.m.to 5:30 p.m.; and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The site will be closed from March 8 to March 16 for spring break. The last day of taxpayer assistance is April 12.
Franciscan University students can prepare form 1040; schedules A, B, and D, and forms for calculating child and child care credits, education credits, and earned-income credits. Students can also prepare Ohio returns for full-year residents.
The service is available to taxpayers with incomes less than $60,000. Taxpayers who purchased health insurance through an exchange and received federal subsidies are not eligible for assistance. Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) preparation is not available.
All participating students have completed an individual income tax course and have passed a series of IRS training courses and exams.
This marks the 31st year that Franciscan University students have participated in this program.
