STEUBENVILLE, OHIO—Beginning in fall 2022, Trinity Health System will operate the health clinic at Franciscan University of Steubenville. This new partnership will allow Franciscan University to significantly increase on-campus access to health services for current students, their spouses, and children. In addition, the partnership will give Franciscan University employees limited on-campus access to Express Care services.
The health clinic in the Baron Health and Wellness Center will be staffed 40 hours per week by a nurse practitioner and certified medical assistants, with a physician on campus at least once a week. The clinic will provide a wide range of outpatient services including diagnosis and treatment for acute and chronic health issues, health screenings and immunizations, as well as referrals to specialists for more complex health care needs.
Dr. Dan Dentino, vice president of Student Life at Franciscan University, said, “This new and exciting partnership with Trinity Health System will significantly increase on-campus access to health services for our students, answering a need many students have recently expressed. I’m grateful we can also offer expanded health services to faculty and staff, and I’m especially pleased we can partner with another Catholic institution to make it happen.”
Trinity Health System is part of CommonSpirit Health, a nonprofit, Catholic health system that seeks to make the healing presence of God known by improving the health of the people it serves.
“This partnership is one more way we are bringing together our two ministries to better serve our community. We are very excited to take this step and provide this service to the students, faculty, and staff of Franciscan University,” said James Mirasola, vice president of Physician Enterprise at Trinity Health System.
This partnership also allows Franciscan University to expand its counseling services and build educational outreach programs. Enhancements include the addition of another full-time counselor to better serve the students’ mental health needs, as well as education and outreach in the areas of nutrition, strength and conditioning, healthy relationships, stress management, and more.
In the event of a medical emergency, students and other patients will be referred to nearby medical facilities such as Trinity Health System or Weirton Medical Center.
